Fred’s Restaurant – UWS

Conversation with the host…

“Can I have a name?”

“Catt.”

“Really? I ask you for a name, and you say Catt? At a DOG restaurant?”

For our latest excursion the Brunchaholics hit up the Upper West Side. Dog lovers will enjoy this post – since the restaurant is lovingly named for a female black lab named… Fred (insert “awww” here). Brunch at Fred’s is offered on Saturday’s and Sunday’s from 10:00am to 3:30pm.

It was a spectacular day in NYC, but the only table that could accommodate the crew was inside. A long walk in Central Park would follow but we needed sustenance, so we pressed on. Upon entering we were greeted by Fred (well, her picture).

If you have a lovable pooch at home you would like to immortalize, bring in a framed picture and your friends at Fred’s will add it to the wall. 🙂 I will be doing so in the very near future.

We were also greeted by delicious blueberry mini-muffins with a strawberry spread. Unfortunately, the hands flew to the basket and we almost missed the photo-op… almost…

Food was ordered and drinks started rolling through. You get one free mimosa, bloody mary, or juice, in addition to coffee or tea with Brunch, but stay tuned if you’re on Facebook and want a free drink!  Fred’s will reward you for checking in on FB, with a libation from their drink menu. FREE!

And then the food arrived…

The Crab Cake Benedict… very yummy…

An omelet… which satisfied…

and Apple Cinnamon Pancakes rounded out the breakfast menu items.

All got good reviews, but only order the pancakes if you’re in the mood for a sweet dessert (and you’re not hurting from copious amounts of fun the night before). They were a little too sweet for one of the crew members.

And the lunch menu items included:

The cheeseburger, with added slices of avocado…

Orecchiette (Spicy Sausage, Broccoli, Roasted Red and Yellow Peppers in Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Garlic with Parmesan Cheese) – yeah… we had a hard time pronouncing that too…

and the Turkey Burger.

The cheeseburger was a little dry, but the fries AND salad were welcome on the plate. No choice necessary, you get them both. Plus, you can’t go wrong with a brioche bun! No complaints about the turkey burger, which was juicy, and flavorful (with slices of avocado added for additional $), and the Orecchiette was very good, but not spicy as the menu stated.

Overall…

Atmosphere: 4.5 out of 5 Bellinis

Service: 3.5 out of 5 Bellinis

Food: 3.5 out of 5 Bellinis
